Water Direct

Water Direct is run in partnership with the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) and is available to customers in receipt of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Job Seekers Allowance – Income based
  • Pension Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowance – Income related

How does Water Direct work?

In summary, it may be possible for the DWP to pay us directly from your benefits if you are in receipt of one of the above.

The scheme is free and, if successful, you will not have to worry about any further debt recovery action. You'll pay your current year's charges plus a fixed amount to help clear your arrears.

Many customers find that payments are easier to manage as they are spread in a more affordable way. If you are in receipt of benefits and are interested in applying for Water Direct, please call and tell us. We will delay debt recovery action while the DWP are dealing with your application.

You can either approach Job Centre Plus yourself (you will need to take your Benefits entitlement notices with you) or contact our Payment Helpline on 0333 000 0005.

You will need to tell us your National Insurance number, date of birth, your South East Water account number (the 9 digit number on the top right hand corner of your water bill) and the type of benefits you are receiving.

If you are in receipt of benefits from Job Centre Plus or have asked them or the Department for Work and Pensions for help with your water bill, please call us and tell us immediately. We will delay debt recovery action while the Department for Work and Pensions is dealing with your application.
