Water supply issues in East Sussex

Update 2 June

Water has now returned to the Friston and East Dean area.

We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience while we worked to restore supplies and apologise for the inconvenience caused.

The issue was caused by a valve which connects two 21 inch diameter water mains which pump water from Friston Water Treatment Works to local villages.

Our specialist teams worked very hard while the damaged valve was removed. Temporary repairs were unfortunately unsuccessful and so a specialist part had to be manufactured to replace the broken 21 inch valve.

The repair took longer than initially hoped due to its complex nature and during this time, water levels in the nearby Meads service reservoir dropped.

During the interruption, our teams worked to provide alternative supplies for customers, with particular focus on our more vulnerable customers.

Our teams worked day and night to fit the new parts and to complete repairs which were successful during the early hours of this morning.

Thank you to local residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while we worked to restore water supplies.
