24 May 2017

Householders in Berkshire needing help to pay their water bills can get expert advice from a team of specially trained staff in the South East Water Customer Care Team.

A range of benefits may be available to those who qualify for assistance and members of the team will attending a large number of events throughout the summer offering confidential advice to anyone with financial worries or who would like to know more about the help on offer.

Support tariffs and schemes include the Helping Hand Social Tariff for anyone whose total household income is less than £16,105 per annum or who is in receipt of specified benefits.

Charges can be capped at the company’s average fixed charge for the year.
Sheila Bowdery, Customer Care Team Manager for South East Water, said: “Another benefit is WaterSure which caps your charges to our average bill if you receive certain qualifying benefits and have three or more children under 19 or someone in your home with a medical condition requiring the use of extra water. There’s also a Single Room Tariff for anyone living in a communal home sharing a bathroom and/or a kitchen.”

South East Water will consider clearing any arrears for customers who can prove they meet qualifying criteria under its Helping Hand Scheme and will also place customers with additional needs on its Priority Services Register offering a range of free services.

It can also provide information about Water Direct, a scheme administered by the Department of Work and Pensions to deduct payments directly from benefits including income Support, Pension Credit, Income-based Jobseekers or Employment Support Allowance.
