Water main replacement in Johns Cross, Mountfield

What is planned?

This area has suffered a number of water pipe bursts which have resulted in damage to property and people not receiving any water. This is unacceptable to us and to help rectify the situation we will be replacing the old unreliable water main.

Work on the £172,000 scheme to install a new water main, approximately 1200m in length, will take place along the A21, starting in front of Barracks Cottages to a junction on to Vinehall Road close to The Lodge and just west of Vinehall School.

If possible, we will be using directional drilling techniques, where a series of pits will be excavated and the new pipe run between them. If this is not achievable, traditional trenching techniques will be used.

Construction will be carried out in stages, with the completion of one section of road being returned to its original state and the working area moved along to the next stage.

Due to the location of the existing main in private property, we will need to arrange for some service connections to be run from the existing main within the property boundary to the new main in the highway. Property owners affected by this will be contacted by our land agents.

As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor there will be special signs around the working area indicating the way traffic should flow.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.

When is the work due to start?

Construction is due to start on Monday 9 March 2017 and is anticipated to take approximately six months to complete, however our contractor’s staff will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

Work will take place during normal working hours, although there may be some activities at weekends.
