A31 - improving the water network
14 August 2017

Why are we doing this work?

As part of an ongoing programme to improve our water supply network we are planning a £200,000 scheme to install 349 metres of new water main along the A31 westbound carriageway.

This pipe has burst 10 times in the last eight years and the project will see the section of pipe between Chamber Lane and Runwick Lane replaced.

When are we working?

Construction is planned to start along the A31 on Tuesday 29 August 2017 and the project is expected to take approximately 11 weeks to complete.

However our contractor’s staff will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

During the scheme, which will prevent emergency roadworks and water supply interruptions, alternating temporary lane closures will be in place on both sides of the A31 westbound carriageway.

This is the only way we can keep the public and our workforce safe.

Please be assured that access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Work will take place during normal working hours, although there may be some activities at weekends.
