What work are we doing?
To ensure our customers continue to enjoy top quality and reliable tap water, South East Water will be carrying out two schemes to lay new water mains the Yorkletts and Dargate area.
These two important projects represent a £900,00 investment in order to secure future supplies to homes and businesses in the area.
Where are we working?
We are planning to lay 650 metres of new water main along Wraik Hill, Whitstable. The £400,000 scheme, which will take approximately 14 weeks to complete, is necessary to improve the capacity of the network and ensure we can continue to maintain water pressure to the Whitstable area.
We will also be working on a separate scheme to overcome the issue of burst pipes in the Highstreet Road and Dargate Road area. Work on this £550,000 scheme to install 2,200 metres of new main will take place along Highstreet Road, from the junction with the Thanet Way entry slip road. Work will then progress along Dargate Road to the Thanet Way junction and will also take place within Ford Walk and Coombe Walk. This scheme is expected to take up to 12 months to complete.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor, road closures will be in place for the duration of these schemes. However, please be assured that access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. Signs will also be in place around the working area to indicate which way traffic should flow.
When will the work take place?
Our works on Wraik Hill are scheduled to start on Tuesday 3 January 2017. Then, on 13 February 2017, construction works will get underway at Ford Walk and Coombe Walk with the closure of Highstreet Road on the Dargate side of Thanet Way taking place from the middle of April.
Work will take place during normal working hours, although there may be some activities at weekends
