Queens Gardens and Market Street, Herne Bay

Why are we doing this work?

Due to a number of bursts and on-going water quality issues we will be replacing the water mains which run along Queens Gardens and Market Street, Herne Bay. This is to ensure our customers in the area continue to enjoy top quality and reliable tap water

Where are we working?

Phase 1 – Queens Gardens:

Construction work is expected to start at Queens Gardens on 5 January 2017, and is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete, finishing on 28 February 2017.
In order to facilitate the works, we will be suspending a number of car parking bays along Queens Gardens. This will also act as a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor.

During the works, it has been agreed with both Kent Highways and the Herne Bay Office of Canterbury City Council that, in order to reduce disruption, a one way system will be put into effect during the entire duration of the works.

Phase 2 – Market Street:

Construction work is expected to start at Market Street on 1 March 2017, and is expected to take approximately seven weeks to complete, finishing on 13 April 2017.

As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor, we will need to temporarily close Market Street for the entire duration of the works from 1 March 2017 to 13 April 2017.

It has been agreed with the Herne Bay Office of Canterbury City Council that a temporary access point to the adjacent public/resident car parking compound will be created, where the temporary access point is from William Street. This will be clearly signposted for the duration of the work.

Work will take place during normal weekday working hours, however some activities may also take place at weekends.
