Metering makes a difference in Herne Bay
12 October 2016

South East Water has almost completed its programme to fit meters for almost all its domestic customers in Herne Bay.

The company started its metering programme in Kent in 2011 and has worked its way across the county on a street by street basis, reaching Herne Bay in summer 2016.

So far technicians have fitted 7,100 meters with a further 1,500 expected to be fitted before it moves to Canterbury in 2017.

South East Water’s Metering Manager Oluseyi Onifade said: “We are making very good progress with our metering programme and have received positive feedback from customers.

“By moving to a water meter, customers have more control over their water usage and it’s a fairer way to pay for water. Once we introduce the metered charge, like gas and electricity bills, customers only pay for what they use. If they use water wisely and don’t waste it, they could also see their water bills reduce.”
