Why are we doing this work?
As part of an ongoing programme to improve our water supply network we are planning a scheme to install a new section of pipe along Hawkley Road, Liss.
The existing pipe has suffered a number of bursts which have resulted in people not receiving any water. This is unacceptable to us and to rectify the situation we will be replacing the old water main.
When and where are we working?
Work on the scheme to install the new water main will take place along Hawkley Road, Liss between Highbrook stables and Hurst Cottages.
This will begin on Monday 23 January 2017 and is anticipated to take approximately two months to complete.
How can we ensure this work is done with minimum disruption to you?
Where possible, we will be using directional drilling techniques which involves excavating a series of pits where the pipe will run between then drilling the new water pipe underground. Where this is not achievable, traditional trenching techniques will be used.
Construction works will be carried out in stages, with the road being returned to its original state upon completion of one section before the working area moves along to the next stage.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor, we were planning to temporarily close Hawkley Road to traffic for the scheme.
However, it has been decided the diversion route is not suitable and to minimise disruption for local residents and businesses, temporary two-way traffic lights will now be in place along Hawkley Road for the extent of the scheme.
Work will take place during normal office hours however some work may also take place at weekends.
