Project updates

Update 25 May 2017

Our road closure is still in place between Garswood and Harmans Water Road and we expect to remain here next week. So far we have laid 1424 metres of pipe along the scheme. We are currently connecting to our existing network at our current position and then move our rolling road closing up to the junction of Helmsdale.

As a result of the good progress we have made, we will be extending the work in Opladen Way from the junction of Helmsdale to the junction of Queens Pine.

This work was due to be carried out later this year but to minimise disruption to residents and motorists we plan to do this while we are in the area.

This work will be carried out under a rolling road closure to ensure the safety of our workforce and the public. While this work takes place, a clearly signed diversion route will be in place for pedestrians and motorists. We expect to complete this work by mid to late June.

Our final piece of the scheme, which will be located between the roundabout near to the sports centre and the double roundabout in Harmans Water Road, will start when our work along Opladen Way has completed. We expect this section of work to take approximately four weeks.

We will also need to return to the combined footpath and cycle path which runs adjacent to Nightingale Crescent and Hunter Way in the summer school holiday period to complete our work here.

Despite the additional work, we expect to complete the scheme by the original date of July 2017.

Thank you to local residents and motorists for your ongoing cooperation.

The footpath north of Firlands remains closed and we have continued to lay our new pipe here. We expect the footpath to re-open after the Easter holidays.

Thank you to local residents and motorists for your ongoing cooperation.

Update 4 April 2017

We now have a road closure in place between Garswood and Harmans Water Road. So far works have progressed well and we envisage being in this section for the next fortnight. This is due to the road being quite heavily congested with other utilities.

We have now closed the footpath North of Firlands and will look to utilise the holiday period to install as much pipe as possible.

So far 1125 metres of pipe has been laid on the scheme.

Update 23 March 2017

Work has progressed well towards the junction of Garswood. Currently our closure is in place between Frensham and Garswood.

We will be changing the closure around early next week to lay new pipe between Garswood and Harmans Water Road.

So far 1075 metres of pipe has been laid on the scheme.

Update 10 March 2017

Work is progressing well along Opladen Way. Our gang is currently located just past Frensham and our second gang have completed the road crossing that needed to be carried out at Garswood as well as laying the new main in the footpath adjacent to Opladen Way.

Next week we expect to continue laying along Opladen Way to meet where we have laid along the footpath.

Update 27 February 2017

The rolling road closure has now been moved to between Oakdale and Lightwood and our gang is currently laying the new pipe here.

The second gang is currently laying the new pipe within the verge at the junction with Garswood. We will keep you updated on our progress.

So far 720 metres of pipe has been laid on the scheme.

Update 10 February 2017

Our road closure along Opladen Way has now been moved to between Coombe Pine and Keepers Coombe. We envisage moving the road closure between Keepers Coombe and Lightwood by the end of next week.

Towards the end of this week we have reinstated Nightingale Crescent between the junctions of Firlands and the northern cycle track. On Monday this gang will start work to lay pipe along the verge at the junction of Garswood.

Thank you to local residents and motorists for your ongoing patience.

Update 6 February 2017

We have reinstated the road between Coombe Pine and Oldstead and we have now moved the road closure between Coombe Pine and Keepers Coombe and will continue laying the new pipe here over the coming weeks.

Along Nightingale Crescent we have finished laying the new pipe and the area between Firlands and the northern cycle track will be reinstated at the beginning of this week.

Once this reinstatement work has been completed, the gang working here will move along to Opladen Way at the junction with Garswood. They will then start laying the pipe moving south to meet the second gang currently laying the pipe along Opladen Way.

So far we have laid over 530 metres of new pipe.

Update 31 January 2017

We have now completed our work to lay our new pipe across the subway and have returned to the road to continue the new pipeline. Thank you to pedestrians for their patience while this work took place.

Our road closure is currently still in place between Coombe Pine and Oldstead, whilst we cross the junction of Coombe Pine. By early next week we will then move the road closure between the junctions of Coombe Pine and Keepers Coombe. We expect to be in this section for around three weeks.

Along Nightingale Crescent, the closure remains between Firlands and the northern cycle track. We hope to move our working area along at the start of next week.

Update 20 January 2017

Our work to lay the new pipe across the subway has progressed well this week and we expect to come back onto Opladen Way to continue laying the new pipe.

Access is being maintained through the subway and we expect to reinstate the bank next to the subway at the end of this week and beginning of next week.

Next week we will lay the next 50 metres of pipe along Opladen Way before we reinstate the road and move the road closure along between the junctions of Coombe Pine and Keepers Coombe.

This week work has continued along Nightingale Crescent and our working area has moved between Firlands and the northern cycle track.

We are able to maintain access turning left out of Firlands. As a result the road will still be closed between Firlands and Harmans Water Road.

Update 13 January 2017

This week we have been laying our new pipe along Nightingale Crescent up to the junction with Firlands. Next week we will reinstate this area before we continue laying the new pipeline further along Nightingale Crescent.

Along Opladen Way the road closure is still in place between Oldstead and Coombe Pine.

This week we have been laying our pipe across the subway along Opladen Way. As this is a challenging section of our project, we expect to continue laying the new pipe here next week.

The subway has now been closed off to pedestrians and while this closure is in place, a temporary footpath has been created to ensure pedestrians continue to have a safe route to cross.

Update 6 January 2017

This week we have been setting up the site following the break over the festive period and we have now set up a road closure along Nightingale Crescent to allow us to continue laying our new pipe along this section. The road closure along Opladen Way is currently in place between Oldstead and Coombe Pine.

Next week work to lay the new pipe in Nightingale Crescent will continue. Along Opladen Way, we will continue to lay the new pipe across the subway. While this work takes place, a temporary footway will be created to ensure pedestrians have a safe route while the subway is closed.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

Update 30 December 2016

The road closure along Opladen Way will be in place when our gang return to site on Tuesday 3 January following the festive period.

This means bus route 156 will return to follow the diversion route that has been put in place during our work.

When our gang returns, we will be continuing to lay our new pipe across the subway and to keep pedestrians safe, the subway will be temporarily closed.

We will keep you updated on this work and when the subway will be re-opened.

Update 23 December 2016

We have now completed our work to clear the site along Opladen Way and the road has been reinstated. Opladen Way will be open to traffic between now and when the gang returns to site on Tuesday 3 January.

Over the Christmas period, bus routes 4, 171 and 172 will continue to follow the diversion that has been put in place for our scheme. However, route 156 will return to its original route until Tuesday 3 January.

This means it will now travel along Harmans Water Road – Opladen Way – Farningham – Savernake Way – Mendip Road – Oareborough – and return to Harmans Water Road.

Our gang will return to site on Tuesday 3 January to continue laying the new pipe across the subway. To keep pedestrians safe while we work in this area, we will need to temporarily close off access to this subway.

Once again we would like to thank local residents and motorists for your patience while we carry out this important work and would like to wish you a Merry Christmas.

Update 16 December 2016

This week we have completed our work along the cycle path in Nightingale Crescent and the area has been reinstated to its original condition.

Along Opladen Way we have now moved into the verge area above the subway and have started to lay the new pipe here. After the Christmas and New Year period we plan to lay the new pipe across the subway before moving back onto the road. We will keep you updated on the planned dates for this section of work.

In addition we will also be packing up all of our equipment towards the end of next week and moving it away from the site during the Christmas break.

The road closure is currently in place between the junction of Helmsdale and Nettlecoombe and we currently have priority signage in place between Oldstead and Coombe Pine.

We will be reinstating the road and re-opening Opladen Way fully at the end of next week until Tuesday 3 January when we will return to site. We would like to remind all residents to be cautious when driving through our road works zone.

Thank you to all local residents and motorists for your ongoing cooperation.

Update 9 December 2016

We have laid the new pipe up to the junction of Oldstead but the road closure is still in place between Helmsdale and Nettlecombe. Within the next week we will be moving the closure along to be in place between the junction of Oldstead and Coombe Pine.

As a result, access to properties up to the junction of Oldstead will be from the southern end of Opladen Way and any properties to the left and in the road closure can be accessed via the northern end of Opladen Way.

Next week we will be reinstating the section that has been laid this week and we will be moving our work into the verge before we stop work for the Christmas period.

This week we have continued to lay the new pipe along the cycle path in Nightingale Crescent. We have experienced challenging groundwater conditions in this section so this has slowed us down.

We will continue this work next week and hope to have this section completed as soon as possible.

Once again thank you to all local residents and motorists for your cooperation during this work.

Update 2 December 2016

We have now laid our pipe between the junctions of Helmsdale and Nettlecombe. Before we move the road closure along to between Nettlecombe and Oldstead, we will reinstate the area where the new pipe has been laid early next week.

This week we have been digging and laying the new pipe along the cycle path in Nightingale Crescent and we will continue to lay the new pipe next week. We have experienced challenging ground conditions in this area.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation and we will keep you updated on the progress of this important scheme.

Additional update 29 November 2016

The connection that was due to take place tonight has been cancelled due to operational difficulties. We are sorry for the late notice and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We will plan to do this work as soon as we can but will keep you updated on the new date for this when we know.

Once again we would like to apologise for the cancellation of this work and thank you for your ongoing patience and cooperation.

Update 25 November 2016

Work on site is progressing well. This week we dug along Opladen Way with the junction of Helmsdale to locate our main and confirm the location for us to connect the first section of pipe to our existing water network.

This connection will take place between 11pm on Tuesday (29 November) and 5am on Wednesday (30 November). During this work there may be some noise disruption but the gang will be working hard to keep noise to a minimum.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we have tried to carry out this connection at night to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

Today we have started to lay the new main along Opladen Way and this will continue next week.

We have also carried out trial holes along the cycle path in Nightingale Crescent and we plan to start laying pipe here next week. Our working area has been fenced off and there is signage in place warning cyclists to dismount.

We know that road closures can be frustrating but we would appreciate your patience and cooperation while work takes place on this essential scheme.

You can keep track of our anticipated progress of the rolling road closure by viewing the map below:
