Regulators and stakeholders

We made sure regulatory and stakeholder challenge occurred at every stage of the plan’s progress.

Our principal regulator for the water resource planning process is the Environment Agency. It advised and challenged us on some of the findings that emerged during the earlier stages of producing this plan. It also provided technical advice to the Government when the Secretary of State considered whether our draft plan could be formally adopted.

Challenge and feedback has also been provided through our established Environment Focus Group, of which the Environment Agency is a member, and the Customer Challenge Group.

Our proposals were also been tested with both existing and future customers through focus groups and online panels.

This challenge and feedback helped us firm up the range of options to be included in our draft plan, so we can balance the risk of securing supplies with the wider costs to customers and the environment.

Our plan has now been approved by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
