Water to your tap - the amount we use
We all need to use water wisely. An increasing population means extra demand for water, while increasingly erratic weather patterns could lead to more droughts in the future. It is more important than ever for us all to take care in how we use water.
How do we measure up?
We supply one of the driest regions, together with having the most affluent customer base, this has meant traditionally we’ve had high levels of consumption compared to other parts of the country.
It is important to note that these figures are based on population and household data from 2011/12 and we are carrying out further research now to update these to ensure we have an accurate picture of household water use today.
We’ve seen population increase above projected levels in recent years and following the recession a number of non-household buildings have converted into smaller dwellings – for example a number of pubs have closed and have been split into flats or small homes.
Our customer metering programme is helping us to encourage a reduction in consumption and at the end of 2016, 78% of households in our area had been metered. We are working with our customers to understand their water use and help them find ways to use less water.
